If you are a writer then you most likely love to read. That’s probably how you fell in love with the idea of writing, by wanting to tell your own story, right? Here’s the thing, wanting to tell a story and wanting to write are very different.
You can love to read, love stories, and love the idea of being an author, but if you don’t love writing then it will be very difficult to achieve that dream. Loving the idea of writing and actually loving to write are very different. You can think about writing all day long, but if your story isn’t on paper for others to read at the end of the day, what good did all that thinking do?
Do you love to write or do you love the idea of having written?
You have to write in order to have written. But, do you want to write? That’s the question you need to ask yourself.
Now, don’t get discouraged if you don’t like the process of writing, it’s a hard thing to do. It probably just means that you haven’t found a writing process that works best for you. In which case, try out different ones and see what works. Do you need to outline before you draft? Do you need to start in the middle of your story? Do you need to dictate your story into a recorder and then transcribe it afterwards?
Find out what makes you fall in love with writing so that you can say that you have written. Fall in love with writing, not just the idea of writing.
