What are your strengths and weaknesses? You have to be honest with yourself about what you are good at and what you need more help with in order to move forward. If not, you may end up with a really shitty book and reputation as a writer. Make a list of your strengths and weaknesses as a writer. Next, make a list of what skills writers need to be successful. Then, compare the lists.
Your strengths are things that you are good at already, but don’t let that get you cocky. Practice makes perfect. Make time to practice your strengths so they stay strong. If you’re good at choosing places to write but don’t put too much thought into it one day and end up writing in a crowded coffee shop with too many distractions, you’re writing will suffer for it.
Your weaknesses should not stay weak. Strengthen your weaknesses by making time to practice different ways to become better at them. If you don’t get better at your weaknesses then your writing will be weak.
Together, your strengths and weaknesses make your skillset and you will need to create a routine to hone those skills. Writing is not something that everyone can do, not everyone is good at it. But, if you have a passion for it then take the time to focus on your strengths and weaknesses and hone your skills as a writer. Your readers will thank you for it.
